After a short summer break, Caravanning News is planning to ramp up coverage next week for the winter season.

Editor Chris Gosling said, “We’ve had some very difficult choices to make over this summer, especially with some technolgy issues causing grief, which we’ve just resolved.”

“We’ve also had some very serious news just arrive about online video content regulation, which we think may decimate small-scale video producers, who work on programmes that are only shown on the internet – there are new rules in place, which few people apart from big broadcasters seem aware of, and these look very likely to damage small businesses. I don’t think that many responsible producers have specific problems with regulation and licensing issues, but in the instance of online video, an annual registration fee of £2,900 seems like an excessive amount of money for small businesses to find!”

The four ranges have a very new look with a new front panel, raised roof capping rails and a new full height rear panel.

The most striking feature of the redesign for the Conqueror and Elite ranges is a new sunroof feature, which curves with the roofline, and is accented on either side with black to make a smart new front window set. Internally, this feature is gives a much improved view when standing and looking forward in the caravans, and also allows more overhead light into the caravans.

This means that the video site will now host much longer video clips, including the programme’s weekly online variant – Caravan Channel Weekly, and will also facilitate online support advertising and copyright protection for show content.

Programme producer Chris Gosling said, “This really is one of those business accolades that you simply can’t buy or claim – YouTube operate their own standards of judgement for video partnerships and they come to you to make you a partner when your results justify it.”

The Caravan Channel TV programme has only been using YouTube for around 2 of its 4-year history. Prior to this, all content was delivered from the programme’s own servers.

“Our programmes are now seen around the world in all formats’, Gosling added, “and the nearly half-a-million views we’ve had to date on YouTube has added considerably to our reputation for independent and professional journalism, rather than the kind of inflated hype often seen online.”

Bailey have announced that the popularity of the current Bailey Alu-Tech model ranges (Pegasus & Olympus) has been detrimental to the retail sales performance of the remaining classic construction ranges. They say that most notably this has affected Pageant Series 7 to the extent that this established range no longer generates enough orders to justify its continued inclusion within their portfolio.

Bailey have decided to discontinue the production of Pageant Series 7 with immediate effect. There are a few remaining models within the Retailer Network, they commented, and anybody interested in acquiring one of these units should contact the Bailey Customer Helpline on either helpline@bailey-caravans.co.uk or 0117-3052939 for information on availability.

Bailey said they will continue to maintain a full after sales and replacement parts supply service for Pageant models up to ten years old and a partial parts supply service for models older than that.

The third range to incorporate the Alu-Tech body shell will be the Bailey Unicorn which will start to arrive at Retailer depots from 1st September 2010 onwards. Bailey say that they also remain committed to the introduction of additional new product ranges featuring this construction system in other sectors of the market in the future.

Industry comments suggest that production of “classic” construction caravans has already finsihed in the Bailey factory, which underwent considerable revamps and updates during the recent holiday closure.

Teesdale Barnard Castle Caravan Club Site opened its gates to members on Sunday 1st August. In the heart of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this 76-pitch, eight acre site provides the perfect base for members to discover this stunning part of the country.

Teesdale Barnard Castle provides a great location for walkers and cyclists as the Teesdale Way and Pennine Way are both nearby and, with local bus services providing access to the upper reaches of Teesdale and beyond, the opportunities for exploration are endless. Other nearby attractions include England’s highest waterfall at High Force, England’s highest pub, the Tan Hill Inn, and England’s highest market town at Alston.

The new site is set in open countryside but is only a 10-minute stroll along the banks of the River Tees from the picturesque market town of Barnard Castle with its classic Georgian and Victorian architecture – as well as its 12th century castle with spectacular views down to the river and 16th century bridge. The ancient capital of Teesdale, Barnard Castle is also home to the famous Bowes Museum, resembling a French chateau, with its world-renowned collection of fine art and porcelain.

Built to The Club’s exacting quality standards, the £1.5 million development programme incorporates sustainable energy-saving features, trialled elsewhere on the sites network, including ground source heat exchangers, rainwater recovery and solar pre-heating of hot water. The site has The Caravan Club’s usual stamp of quality with first-class toilet and shower facilities, fully equipped laundry room and accommodates the needs of disabled visitors.

As with all Caravan Club site developments, work at Teesdale Barnard Castle has been carried out following careful consideration of the existing landscape and its natural history, using a professional ecologist to recommend planting schemes to encourage biodiversity. Additional planting ensures that the site is well-screened and as a result the development and caravan pitching has minimal visual impact on the surrounding area.

The site will provide over 62,000 ‘bed nights’ annually, and visitors will be making the most of all the attractions of the area, spending over half a million pounds a year off site in the local region.

“I’m very excited about how this wonderful site has come together in a major investment, exclusively for Club members,” comments Catherine Ford, Head of Sites Marketing. “It has everything our members have come to expect from a Club site, and the area has all they could wish for to make a perfect holiday or short break, whatever their interests.”

These are the first pictures of the new Q58 Stealth Caravan from Dunster House.

The new layout features a fixed double bed with a full mattress – with no corner cutaways. The caravan has a unique dual height bedroom wardrobe and sideboard design, so movement is completely unimpeded without having to compromise a good nights sleep.

The front end of the caravan is now in the classic dinette format, with a window added to the previously solid and opaque nosecone.

The evolving Stealth Nosecone features a large front window whilst continuing to protect against water ingress. Stealth commented that thick GRP nosecone is resistant to dents and finishes off the eye-catching look of the whole tourer.
Stealth added that their new graphics make a bold statement on the side of the Caravan, with the functionality preserved with twin front gas locker doors, awning side wetlocker with 230v plug and under bed storage accessible from both inside and out.

The new Q-range from Stealth will be available in 3 levels of finish.

The Caravan Channel will be reporting on the new Stealth 2011 range soon.

Ocean Media Group has announced the launch of a new three-day consumer show – The Outdoor Leisure Show, 25 – 27 February 2011, which will run alongside the successful and popular Boat & Caravan Show (22 – 27 February), which attracted over 85,000 visitors last year.

The new show is targeted at individuals, groups and families in the Midlands and the North of England; those who enjoy spending time in the great outdoors – rambling, fell walking, climbing, mountaineering or exploring places of natural interest.

Commenting on the launch, Outdoor Leisure Show’s Event Director Andy Gibb said: “Our research has shown there is a need for an outdoor leisure show specifically targeting those from the Midlands and the north of England.

“We have a successful track record with the Boat & Caravan Show – about to celebrate its 50th anniversary – of organising an event that delivers what both exhibitors and visitors are looking for from a consumer event; sales from an exhibitor’s perspective, and the opportunity for visitors to see and purchase the latest outdoor clothing, equipment, technology and accessories.”

The Outdoor Leisure Show visitor experience will include free to try outdoor activities including canoeing, kayaking and climbing.

Additionally, the three-day event has attracted adventurer and TV presenter, and former Royal Marine Monty Halls.

Commenting on his attendance, Monty Halls said: “I am delighted to be able to share my experiences of the outdoor life with those attending the show. Whether a young child, teenager, parent or grandparent there is so much to experience outdoors from walking and visiting national trust houses to mountaineering and rafting. It is a way of life that I encourage everyone to embrace at some time during the year.”

Ocean say that The Outdoor Leisure Show will attract 20,000 visitors. It is due to place in Hall 9, alongside the Boat & Caravan Show. Parking will be included in the price of a ticket – £15.50 adults; £13.50 seniors: Child 5-15 £7.00; Child under 5 Free and £46.00 for a family ticket (2 adults and 3 children).
