More jobs are in the pipeline as Shropshire and Mid Wales caravan sales company Salop Leisure plans to invest £1 million in business expansion in 2010.

Major expansion plans at the company’s headquarters, located alongside Shrewsbury bypass at Emstrey roundabout, will begin in 2010 to keep pace with growing customer demand for touring caravans, motorhomes and caravan holiday homes. The company, which employs around 140 people, also plans to continue updating and improving five star caravan holiday home parks that it owns at seven locations in Mid Wales.

Managing Director, Tony Bywater promised that new posts will be created in all areas of the business following significant growth in demand for caravans and motorhomes in 2009.

“2010 promises to be a very exciting year for Salop Leisure and the caravan industry in general,” he said. “All the research that we have carried out throughout 2009 has revealed that more people, of all ages, intend to spend their holidays in Britain next year and for the foreseeable future because of the exceptionally low value of the pound.

“Whilst the high cost of foreign travel does influence the holiday decision, people are telling us that they just want the freedom that caravan and motorhome ownership offers. They can get away for a weekend or longer break any time they please and the beauty of caravan ownership is that the whole family benefits. A two-week holiday for a family of four in Europe can cost as much as £5,000 and when it’s over all you have to show for it is a suntan and photos. A touring caravan, motorhome or caravan holiday home represent great value for money because they can be used time and again for years to come after the initial financial outlay.

“People are now spending their money wisely and leisure time is very valuable to them when they are working longer hours. They want to be able to get away to peace and quiet and chill out with their children or grandchildren doing traditional things like fishing, walking and cycling.”
